To support the government's objective to better industrial energy efficiency and conservation in the Philippines, the Bureau of Philippine Standards under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-BPS) has adopted standards on Energy Management Systems (EnMS) which were developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This effort is also in support to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) to which the country is likewise committed to.

The newly adopted standards by the DTI-BPS are as follows: (a) PNS ISO 50001:2019 Energy management systems  ̶  Requirements with guidance for use (This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 50001:2011); (b) PNS ISO 50004:2019 Energy management systems  ̶  Guidance for the implementation, maintenance and improvement of an energy management system; (c) PNS ISO 50006:2019 Energy management systems  ̶  Measuring energy performance using energy baselines (EnB) and energy performance indicators (EnPI)  ̶  General principles and guidance; (d) PNS ISO 50015:2019 Energy management systems  ̶  Measurement and verification of energy performance of organizations  ̶  General principles and guidance; and (e) PNS ISO 50021:2019 Energy management and energy savings  ̶  General guidelines for selecting energy savings evaluators.

The DTI-BPS hopes to see more local companies and organizations use the adopted Philippine National Standards (PNS) in their operations not only to increase their profitability by reducing costs but also help in mitigating climate change.

Copies of the standards may be secured for a minimal fee from the DTI-BPS Standards Data Center (BPS-SDC) located at the DTI-BPS Office, 3F Trade and Industry Building, 361 Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City. You may call the BPS-SDC at (02) 791.3127.
