Environmental management systems

The Department of Trade and Industry - Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) has adopted as Philippine National Standards (PNS) a set of standards on Environmental Management Systems which were developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The adoption is part of the country’s commitment of harmonizing national standards with international standards and protecting the environment.

The new standards are as follows: (a) PNS ISO 14005:2019 Environmental management systems - Guidelines for a flexible approach to phased implementation (This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 14005:2011); (b) PNS ISO 14064-2:2019 Greenhouse gases -  Part 2: Specification with guidance at the project level for quantification, monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gas emission reductions or removal enhancements (This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 14064-2:2011); (c) PNS ISO 14064-3:2019 Greenhouse gases - Part 3: Specification with guidance for the verification and validation of greenhouse gas statements (This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 14064-3:2011); (d) PNS ISO 14033:2019 Environmental Management - Quantitative environmental information -  Guidelines and examples; and  (e) PNS ISO 14067:2019 Greenhouse gases - Carbon footprint of products - Requirements and guidelines for quantification.

The Philippine government continuously works to ensure environmental sustainability in the country for the present and future generations. With these adopted standards now more accessible and cost-friendly to local companies and organizations, the DTI-BPS expects better participation from the industry in addressing environmental concerns and impacts through their implementation of standards in their operations.
