An electric vehicle is an alternative fuel automobile which uses one or more electric motors for propulsion. The increase in the number of tourist arrivals in the country led to an increased demand for environmentally sound transport services. Major cities, resorts and local government units have started to invest in electric road vehicles to reduce the carbon emission, to preserve the beauty of the environment and, to provide transportation to the growing number of tourist in the country.

DTI-BPS Director James E. Empeño highlights, “The Philippines, with sustainable development as one of its main thrusts, has been promoting the use of electric vehicles as a form of transportation to further reduce the country’s fossil fuel consumption.”

These Standards will promote common understanding among stakeholders of the electric road vehicles industry.

The DTI-BPS is the National Standards Body of the Philippines. It is the Philippines’ member to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
