DTI continues standards advocacy for consumers

The Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) continues to strengthen its information campaign on standards and standardization activities through the “Enhanced Standards Blitz Program”. The Enhanced Standards Blitz Program is a standards advocacy campaign to the public by conducting awareness sessions on standards and standardization programs in schools, relevant industries and professional offices.

School Visits

To reach out to future standards professionals, the DTI-BPS regularly conducts school visits to secondary schools of the National Capital Region through the Enhanced Standards Blitz Program.

Representatives from the different divisions of DTI-BPS (Standards Mainstreaming Division, Standards Development Division, Standards Conformity Division, Product Testing Division) impart the knowledge and understanding of the benefits of standards and its role in product safety and reliability by visiting schools and offices, showing how standards keep consumers safe.

Schools visited by DTI-BPS on 2018 were Don Antonio de Zuzuarregui Sr. Memorial Academy, Upper Bicutan National High School, Western Bicutan National High School, Pasay City North High School – Tramo Campus and Marikina Science High School. A total of 414 students and teachers participated in the DTI-BPS visits to schools.

Laboratory Visits

After the school visits, the DTI-BPS brings the students and teachers to the DTI-BPS Testing Center or the DTI-accredited laboratories for them to witness how products are tested based on the Philippine National Standards (PNS). The test engineers demonstrate how critical products such as washing machine, refrigerator and television are tested for product quality and safety.
