In support to the rights of the Persons with Disability (PWD) on accessibility to Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs), the Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) created a Working Group (WG 3) under the Technical Committee on Road Vehicles (BPS/TC 44).

DTI-BPS’ Technical Committee on Road Vehicles meets to create Working Group on accessibility of PWDs to PUVs.

In support to the rights of the Persons with Disability (PWD) on accessibility to Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs), the Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) created a Working Group (WG 3) under the Technical Committee on Road Vehicles (BPS/TC 44).

The DTI-BPS created the BPS/TC 44 WG 3 to develop Philippine National Standards (PNS) which specifies dimensional limits, general principles and requirements for PUVs for Road Transport with access for PWDs and Functional Limitations. It includes ramps, spaces for wheelchairs with safety accessories such as anchorages and handrails, audio and visual announcement systems, visible signages, and other requirements.

The BPS/TC 44 WG 3 is composed of representatives from the Academe, Trade and Industry, Consumers, Professional Association(s), Research Institution(s), Government Agencies, and, Testing Institution(s).

The WG 3 participating members are Department of Transportation (DOTr), Land Transportation Office (LTO), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Energy and Utilities Systems Technology Development Division - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC), Life Haven Center for Independent Living, Nationwide Organization of Visually Impaired Empowered Ladies (NOVEL), Automotive Body Manufacturers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (ABMAP), GET Philippines, Eclimo Electric Management Inc., ALMAZORA Motors Corporation, Centro Manufacturing Corporation, Hino Motors Philippines Corporation, and, Technological University of the Philippines - Manila (TUP).

The DTI-BPS is the National Standards Body of the Philippines. It is the Philippines’ member to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
