The Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) adopts the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 60335-2-59:2019 Household and similar electrical appliance – Safety – Part 2-59: Particular requirements for insect killlers, as Philippine National Standard (PNS).  This standard cancels and replaces PNS 1079-2-59:1998 Amd. 1:2001 Safety of household and similar electrical appliances Part 2-59: Particular requirements for insect killer (IEC published 1997 with Amd 1:2000). This new standard is now designated as PNS IEC 60335-2-59:2019

PNS IEC 60335-2-59:2019 was published by IEC in 2009 and deals with the safety of electric insect killers, an appliance that electrocutes insects by applying a voltage between two or more grids.

                                                 

The DTI-BPS has also adopted and approved PNS IEC 60335-2-65:2019 Household and similar electrical appliances – Safety – Part 2-65:2000 Particular requirements for air-cleaning appliances. This standard cancels and replaces PNS IEC 335-2-65:2002 Safety of household and similar electrical appliances Part 2: Particular requirements for air cleaning appliances (IEC publiased 1993 with Amd. 1:2000).

These standards will promote common understanding of the safety of household appliances by the industry and concerned stakeholders.
