123                            BPS ULSE Conference 2024 Participants

Makati City, Philippines. The DTI, through the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS), and UL Standards and Engagement (ULSE) teamed up in the conduct of a joint conference aimed at advancing national safety and fire protection in the rapidly growing landscape of photovoltaics and energy storage systems. The conference, with the theme, "Promoting Standards in Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Systems to Enhance Safety and Fire Protection," brought together standards experts, industry leaders, engineers, fire safety professionals, and local industry practitioners to address challenges and identify opportunities for the improvement of the renewable energy landscape in the Philippines.

“The outcomes from this collective effort will be highly contributory as we craft the necessary standards to support the solar energy value chain. This could pave the way for further collaboration on conformity assessment as we ensure the safety and quality of products and systems entering our market,” stated DTI Fair Trade Group Asst. Secretary Atty. Agaton Teodoro Uvero as he formally opened the conference participated by representatives from various public and private sectors.

The conference featured insightful panel sessions with focus on standardization of solar photovoltaics, safety standards for energy storage systems, Philippine Electrical and Fire Codes and Regulations, and the National Renewable Energy Program. Local industry practitioners also participated in the conference and imparted their knowledge and first-hand experiences on their respective practices on solar and renewable energy.

The DTI-BPS entered into a collaboration agreement with the ULSE in September 2020 and have, since then, conducted several joint activities and bilateral meetings that accelerated the development of Philippine National Standards.
